A Seating Secret Weapon: Swivel Chairs

One of my favorite, not-so-secret design weapons is the swivel chair. These pieces are perfect for essentially any space, but particularly work well in open floor plans, transitional spaces and rooms with multiple focal points. My favorite feature of these chairs though, is how they help to create a warm and welcoming environment in your home. Here are a few of my favorite swivel finds:

OFFICE - I am simply swooning over this desk chair. The contoured back gives it a pinch of drama and the tufting lends a dash of sophistication. Better yet, it can be customized in nearly two hundred fabrics and five base finishes -  how sweet and whimsical is it in Peony pink?

FAMILY ROOM - A pint-sized swivel chair allows you to maximize seating in even the smallest of spaces. Or, an oversized version lets everyone cozy up in a pile. The more the merrier in a family room, after all!

KITCHEN - The kitchen is most often the space where everyone congregates, and swivel chairs allow 360 degrees of conversation. If you have a breakfast bar or island, consider accenting them with swivel chairs or stools that can come in handy when you’re playing host.

LIVING ROOM - Our Blue Sea Drive clients wanted help furnishing their newly remolded kitchen and enclosed sunroom. This living space was was screaming for a swivel chair to maximize the spectacular view and encourage conversation with those nearby in the kitchen.

OUTDOORS - These sleek Salima swivel chairs are perfect for accenting a patio nook or setting the stage for a cozy al fresco meal. Their minimalistic frames are great for those with smaller scale outdoor spaces.

My main mission as an interior designer is to help you, the homeowner, create stylish and functional spaces that you’re happy to come home to. The keyword there being “and”. Swivel chairs can truly be both practical AND attractive, marrying fashion AND function. Next time you undertake a project that includes seating, consider a swivel!
