Beyond Stainless Steel

Look out stainless steel – you have some competition in the appliance-color department.

As with most trends, stainless steel caught on and hasn’t let up, leading some homeowners to consider it the ONLY suitable/stylish option available for their kitchen appliances.

This, of course, is ridiculous! Don’t get me wrong, I like and have stainless steel appliances in my kitchen. It works well in many settings because stainless steel is a mid-value color. By that I mean that it’s not too dark (black) and not too light (white) so it works well with many color schemes.

If you have white or black cabinets you might want to consider black or white appliances for a sleek look. Using the same color for your cabinets and appliances really opens up the space and makes it feel larger.

There are also colorful appliances that can add a touch of personality to any kitchen. Consider these if you are not afraid of color and want a touch of whimsy in you kitchen.

Bronze is another great color for appliances. Although not as easy to find, it’s another great mid-value color for your kitchen. It would pair nicely with warm white cabinets.

I often see people looking for a stainless steel appliance based on looks and not features, versus looking for an appliance that can work smart and look smart! Look for features you want and then consider the other elements in your kitchen before you automatically select the “hottest” appliance color.

What is your favorite color appliance and why?
