Unfinished to Family-Friendly: Basement Renovation

We began this project with an unfinished basement and have turned it into a family-friendly space for movie nights, hanging with friends and relaxing. Here’s how we took this basement renovation from empty to complete!

 {Install day is like Christmas morning for us. We were on the edge of our seats waiting to get a glimpse of the finished family room!}

Our clients wanted a family room that would serve their family of four plus friends. This casual space is inspired by nature’s colors with lots of comfort.

One corner of the space now holds a gorgeous navy blue wet bar with a dishwasher, microwave and beverage fridges to accommodate any occasion. A seating area will provide space for dining or games, with a clear view of the TV (to be mounted in the family room).

The cozy family room has a large sectional and swivel chair in durable fabrics. A custom coffee table in an awesome green color is the centerpiece of the room. This space is awaiting window treatments and an area rug, but is otherwise ready for a gathering!

 {What's your favorite piece in the finished space? We're torn between the custom-made coffee table and the oversized fern leaf prints.}

We also added a full bathroom to this basement as well as a bonus room to be used as a guest room if needed.

The space started with a space plan to determine where to place walls, cabinets and furnishings. The bathroom layout was established as well as a custom built in under the stairs.

Next we selected fabrics and furnishings to set the feeling for a casual space with a nod to nature and a rustic vibe. Our color palette is mainly greens, grays and blues with warm tans. An unused space is now on its way to being a wonderful part of this families home.
