2016 Pantone Colors of the Year
As the Oscars are to the silver screen and Vogue is to the runways, Pantone is to the world of color systems. The team over at the “world-renowned authority on color” has spoken, and the 2016 Pantone Colors of the Year are Rose Quartz and Serenity. These two vivid hues may seem a bit bold solo, but with a few tips I can help point you in the right direction to play into this year’s trend!
Look at the whole palette picture. Seek palette inspiration in your everyday style! Some people would buy a serenity-shaded statement necklace or a rose quartz-colored pair of chinos, but couldn’t imagine either of these in their bedroom decor. Find pieces in your closet that incorporate these shades to help inspire a comprehensive color palette. Piece together an outfit – shoes and accessories, the whole nine yards – look in the mirror and there you go! By toying with different combinations, you’ll soon see how these two play nicely with others.
Start small. Small changes often make the biggest impact with the least amount of effort. Add a throw pillow to your bed or switch up the arrangement of accessories on your coffee table or bookshelves. Consider your existing color palette and how you can add either or both of these trending choices into what you’ve already created in your space. If you aren’t looking to make quite the commitment of painting or purchasing new furniture pieces, consider finding hints of the Colors of the Year in a new print for your wall.
Stay true to your style. Do you prefer a floral flourish over graphic prints? Or perhaps clean, modern lines over ornate embellishments? Either way, you can find easy ways to embrace this year’s trending colors however you classify your style. These colors can add a certain softness to an otherwise industrial space like a downtown loft. Consider geometric prints or bold accent pieces like ottomans or side tables. For those that have a more traditional taste, think rose gold-plated accessories or decorative silk flowers in these garden-esque shades.
Setting color trends and pushing the design world’s envelope, the 2016 Pantone Colors of the Year are asking us to embrace the inspiration challenge. Rose Quartz and Serenity encourage many of us to break free of our comfort zones and piece together bolder, more unique palettes.
Take a peek around and see what small (or big, if your brave!) changes you can make within your space to incorporate these Pantone pigments.
