Waiting is Your Best Interior Design Skill

I spent the weekend in Naples, Florida at a best friend’s house. I was there with my girlfriends for our annual girls’ beach weekend. My friend has had the villa for a year and it’s furnished and has some art, but she asked me for ideas to warm the space up as they continue to decorate and acquire art.

To build on what she already has I suggested she add third color to expand her color palette, arrange accessories in groups on her shelves and add a few plants to soften the spaces. We also talked about some of her blank walls.

There is a large wall in the kitchen that can be see from the living room and we talked about putting a very large, colorful piece of art on that wall. It’s a big space and anything placed there will have a huge impact on the home. Because of the size I encouraged her to measure the wall and know what size and colors she’s looking for and then WAIT.

 {Above and beyond simply complimenting a space’s color palette or style, the composition and content of artwork should appeal to you. Wait for the “right” piece! From:  Windy O’Conner .}

When it comes to finding the right pieces for your home waiting is your best interior design skill!

Wait to find the right piece that works for her style, budget and makes her happy. Too often we want to fill our rooms or walls so we rush out to buy something to fill in the blanks. I believe in adding things to your home that you love. Art should make you smile, remind you of a happy time or place or have special meaning to you. It sometimes takes time to find that right piece.

Sometimes, in order to get your design right, you have to be willing to WAIT. In the end, you’ll thank me!
