Warming Up with Dark Walls
I love a room painted with a dark paint color. It doesn’t work for every room or every person, but when it does, boy does it look gorgeous. On this cold wintery day, I wanted to find and share photos of fabulous rooms with dark colors on the walls. Might help warm us up a bit!
Just yesterday I suggested a dark brown for a client’s kitchen, Sherwin-Williams’ Portabello. Not too dark, but it’s the third color up the paint strip, making it “dark” to many. She’s seriously considering it and I hope she does because it will really work well in her space, next to the new family room we’re creating. I find that the best clients are the ones who let you guide them to something wonderful that they never would have considered on their own.
This living room, below, takes the darkness up a notch and really sets a great backdrop for the fabrics and accessories in the room.
As many of you may know, I am having a love affair with navy blue. You can’t get more basic and less trendy than navy blue, but that’s been my favorite for a while now. My master bedroom walls are painted a deep blue-violet. What I love about the bedroom below are the pink accents. Navy and pink together are just so pretty. I’d love to design a client’s room with this scheme this year. Any takers?
Dark, charcoal grey walls also look wonderfully dramatic and welcoming. This lovely dining room offers a lot of light colors to offset the dark walls.
Here’s to hoping I have a chance to work on some rooms with dark walls this year. In the meanwhile, I’ll daydream about warm and stunning dark walls!
