Holiday Decor: A few of my favorite things (Part 4)

In spirit of all of the things merry & bright, I am rounding out sharing some of my favorite holiday decor items to help spread that seasonal feeling throughout your home. This series touches on different elements to embrace and sources of inspiration to seek out as you dig into decorating. Today we capture the final four of my 13 favorite things, all of which can translate to whichever holiday you may celebrate in your home and extend into wintertime, too!

Sparkly garland or beads

What are the holidays without a little sparkle and pizzaz? A great way to add some subtle glam & glisten to your home’s holiday decor is with strings of sparkly beads or garland. Use them to dress up your tree or give your evergreen boughs a pop. Beads help toss in a little texture and are a great way to bring together your ornaments’ color palette. Fluffy garland can hide sore spots like light strand plugs or battery packs, too. I just love how white, glittered garland resembles freshly fallen snow when blanketing a display.

Bells

Bells fall into my favorite things because they are more than just a visual delight, but they tickle our sound senses, too. Their whimsical jingle can strike a nostalgic chord, for me especially. My grandmother used to hang a garland of silver bells over a door way in her house and now it is a keepsake in my collection. I use it in different ways each year, but my holiday decor wouldn’t be complete without incorporating this family treasure. Sounds aside, I love the shine and shape that bells bring to the holiday decor table.

Mirrors

Like candles, mirrors can up the holiday decor ante even though they make for an excellent everyday accessory. When placed properly, they emphasize the glow of your tree’s lights and the sparkle of your garland. I love to use them as trays for clusters of candles, glass dishes and metallic containers. Play with fun shapes and sizes, too. Embellish your decorative wall mirrors with festive swags, wreaths and bows. Think of them as a blank canvas to dabble with this season!

Faux snow

As the carol says, let it snow let snow, let is snow! If you dream of white Christmases, why not bring some indoors with your holiday decor? Cotton balls, glitter, and shimmery spray paint… there are so many materials on the market to give your home a wintery effect. Faux snow can transcend any style or holiday color palette, modern or traditional! Toss some on your shelves or mantle, layer in glass containers with fillers like pinecones or ornaments and drizzle some on your evergreens for a frosted flair. Instant winter without the frostbite.
