What is an interior designer and why should I hire one?
Interior designers help set priorities, offer decision-making guidance, solve problems and establish a plan for your interior decorating projects. And last, but not least, a good designer will come up with ideas that you’ve never dreamed of!
Designers can save you time, frustration and money. They can save you from making costly mistakes you later regret as well as save you from the aggravation of finding painters, reliable contractors, drapery installers and that perfect coffee table that makes you smile every time you see it.
How do I begin working with you?
Every design relationship begins with my client questionnaire and a get acquainted call. During this call we’ll discuss your needs, goals, ideas and project budget. We’ll talk about the results my services provide and how can we work together to create a home you love. If we want to work together after this conversation we’ll set up a design consultation.
Prior to design consultation you’ll receive my interior design “homework” which provides me information about your design preferences and desires. The design consult allows us to get to know each other more and explore your home, as well as offer solutions to current design challenges. From there we establish a scope of work for your project and the design services needed to complete your project.
How long does a typical project take to complete?
Projects vary, but using the full design of a medium-sized living room as an example, you can expect the design process to take about 6 – 8 weeks from the initial consultation meeting to the final design presentation. A full design includes a space plan, all furniture and accessory selections, window treatment and if applicable, custom woodwork designs. These items are presented in person, over 2 – 3 meetings. The final design presentation includes all furniture selections, fabrics, wood samples and a beautiful color rendering, all within the established budget.
How does purchasing work?
If you hire me to coordinate the purchase management of your design project, I’ll create a detailed proposal that outlines your selections and final costs. This is presented at the final design presentation. Once you approve the purchasing proposal, pay the purchasing fee and product costs, I’ll coordinate the purchase and delivery of all of your selections. For a list of all services covered under the purchasing proposal, click here. You also have the option of taking a completed final design plan and coordinating all of the purchases and deliveries on your own.

What are your design fees?
We work on a flat fee (one price per project) for our design services. Design fees are based on the scope of work involved in your project. This fee represents a reasonable assessment of the time and resources it will take to professionally complete your job. The scope of work and design fee are outlined in a letter of agreement. Please view our services page for pricing details or contact April to discuss your projects and our flat design fees.
