MEET APRIL, owner & principal designer
Hi. I’m April.
My passion for design and organizing began early in life in my childhood room. Growing up my sister and I often swapped rooms and I loved the chance to design a new space. Years later I became interested in graphic design when I designed a brochure in a public relations class in college. Laying out pages, working with typography and creating effective communication pieces was a great way to merge my creative side with my organized side.
I earned a master of arts in publication design and began working as a graphic designer. This is when I realized my love of color and ability to create lovely color palettes. Graphic design eventually led me to event planning and design, where I oversaw large outdoor festivals and planned events in an art museum. This took my design skills from paper to spaces.
All of my graphic design, event management, marketing and public relations experience laid the groundwork for starting April Force Pardoe Interiors in 2008. I realized that I had solutions for people who want a beautiful home, but aren’t sure how to create it. I enjoy sharing my talents and working with clients to make them comfortable with the design process. I have been told that if you work with me you’ll feel like a good, knowledgeable friend is helping you with your design project.
After you get past the creative aspect of design most of interior design is about problem solving, organizing and relationship building. These are skills that I’ve honed for years and that I bring to every design job. I am an Associate Kitchen and Bath Designer (AKBD), certified by the National Kitchen & Bath Association, and offer clients assistance with kitchen and bathroom product selection, space planning, materials and finishes.
Behind the scenes, I am a mother of two young girls, a wife and share my office with a chocolate lab, Roxy. Juggling life and design is a part of my life, therefore I understand how real life interacts with design and your home.
MEET HEATHER, design assistant
Hi. I’m Heather.
If I was asked, “Heather, what was your favorite subject in school?” without hesitation I would reply, “art!” Growing up I loved exploring all mediums from painting to paper mâché to ceramics and beyond. In high school I further refined my interest to the field of graphic design when I served as Graphics Editor of the school newspaper. Business was a subject that grabbed my attention, too. A marketing class planted a seed, which would later inspire my college major.
I jumpstarted my career in event planning at a historic Washington, D.C. hotel. The design elements of an event were undeniably my favorite aspect of the overall planning process; creating color palettes, drafting space plans and dabbling with decor.
I manage the behind-the-scenes tasks of running the design studio. I put my organizing skills to use overseeing initial client outreach, purchase management, coordinating project installations, maintaining the office and managing our marketing and social media. I keep our projects carefully coordinated and the office working like a well-oiled machine. Call me the “Jill of all trades” for April Force Pardoe Interiors!
When I’m not helping April bring your design visions to life, my husband, son and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Boh, keep me on my toes. I enjoy a good cup of coffee in an oversized mug, scouring vintage home goods shops and checking local restaurants off my bucket list.
