Create a warm welcome that extends beyond the guest room and into the bathroom by offering your visitors all the comforts of home. A few thoughtful touches help your guests wash away the wear and tear of travel and truly enjoy their stay. Here are some of my tips for getting your guest bathroom guest-ready.
Quality towels are key to preparing your guest bathroom. Stock up with one set of towels per visitor including a washcloth, hand and bath towel. Two bath towels per person is highly recommended though. When shopping for bath linens look for pieces with a GSM (grams per square meter) weight of 400 or greater. The higher the GSM the heavier and more absorbent the towel, making for a luxurious guest experience. Speaking of luxurious, equip your guest bathroom with an extra-large plush robe to send a relaxing statement.
All the essentials.
Offering a basket of travel-sized toiletries is a thoughtful gesture and a great convenience to guests that forget an item or two at home. Fill a small tray or basket with a variety of bath and body products such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash and lotion. For a unique touch, share samples of locally made skin and hair care products – things that your guests can’t find in their neck of the woods. Also, you could include a stash of everyday necessities like mouthwash, cotton swabs, hairspray and makeup remover wipes.
Show a sense hospitality by offering your guests a place to hang their used towels or wet swimsuits. A wall hook or towel bar are simple, inexpensive accessories that can make all the difference in helping your visitors feel at home. If you are working with a small bathroom that is short on wall space, consider stacking towel bars on the back of the door or a freestanding rack. Swing-arm wall mounted units make for excellent space-savers that maximize function. For a deluxe spa-like touch, shop for a heated towel rack.
My least favorite part of packing for overnight travel is loading in the “heavy machinery,” like my hair dryer and irons. They eat up prime packing real estate and pile on the suitcase pounds. If you entertain overnight visitors often, I would recommend investing in a compact hair dryer and perhaps other styling tools to keep on-hand. Your guests will surely appreciate your help in lightening their luggage load.
Putting these guest bathroom tips to use can make your visitors’ stay incredibly comfortable. Your extra attention will surely shine and your guests can’t help but feel extra welcome in your home. For ideas on how to create a welcoming guest bedroom, scope out our other blog post!
