Luxury isn’t always what you think of when you think of a bathroom, but there are many ways to add luxury to your bathroom.
Baltimore at Home magazine’s second issue has an article about luxurious bathrooms and I was happy to talk to writer Kit Waskom Pollard about bathrooms and how to add luxury to this very utilitarian space. Her article, Turning functional bathrooms into luxury living spaces, takes a look at a luxurious bathroom and shares ideas for how you can add luxury to your bathroom.
Here’s an excerpt from the article.
“Aesthetics are only one element of inviting bathrooms; much of the room’s appeal often falls to the plumbing itself. In recent years, premium showers have become an important part of bathroom renovations.
“The shower is taking over the tub,” says interior designer April Force Pardoe. “People are doing larger showers, two-person showers, multiple types of showerheads. Steam showers take the shower up a notch, so it’s relaxing and meditative.””

Here are a few ways to add luxury to your bathrooms.
- Upgrade your towels: purchase the nicest towels you can afford. Egyptian cotton towels are highly luxurious and feel great against your skin.
- Add heat: consider a heated towel bar for those cold mornings. Some can be plugged in, or, if you are already remodeling, you can hardwire the heated bar.
- Smells nice: add a luxurious candle to surround your room in your favorite scent. Splurge on a candle that looks and smells divine.
- Contain it: place everyday items (cotton balls, q-tips, tooth brushes, soap, etc.) in pretty containers. Who says you shouldn’t elevate cotton balls?
The idea behind luxury in the bathroom is to make a space that you use every day a bit nicer and special. This can be anything from a complete renovation to adding an item or two from the list, above. Luxury does cost more, but if you select wisely, it’s always worth it!
