Spring likely has you turning our decorating efforts to the exterior of your home. One surefire way to update your curb appeal is by painting your front door. It’s an easy way to enhance your home’s architecture, garden and show off a bit of your personality!
My front doors are a deep, oxblood red (deep, brownish red color) and my shutters are black, both in a gloss finish. These colors work well with the brick facade. While black is my favorite front door color, I didn’t want red shutters so I swapped the colors on my home.
A glossy black door is my favorite because it’s classic, sharp and helps neutralize other exterior colors. That said, black doesn’t work for all homes, so let’s look at a few colorful front doors to get inspire your front door painting project!
A tip for painting your front door is that you don’t have to paint the inside of the door the same color as the exterior. You should coordinate the inside color with your entry decor.
Your front door color has to coordinate well with your home’s exterior color and style. If you have a traditional style home a bold, green color, as shown above, would probably not fit in. Use classic colors for classic styles.
There are many reds out there so make sure that whatever red (or other color) you select complements the color tones on your home. The house above has warm tones and this red fits right in and adds a lot of personality while doing so! You should think about your exterior colors as one palette.
The purple on these front doors picks up on the colors in the front step. Don’t make your front door look like an accidental color. Tie it into something else outside.
Here’s a classic glossy black front door and it works great with all of the other black accents surrounding it. It also lets the colors on the trim work shine.
This yellow and blue combination is very attractive and, like the red door shown above, says something about the personality of the homeowners. Don’t be afraid to make a statement with your door color.
Gray is a classic color, like black, that will never outshine its surroundings. The matte finish gives it a relaxed feeling like the rest of the front step decor.
