Luxury to me means fabulous textures (soft, silky materials), beautiful and ornate styling and details (tufted seats and cut glass drawer pulls), and neutral palettes accented with splashes of soft color. I’m feeling pampered just thinking about it! Luxurious rooms are all about the senses.
Luxury doesn’t have to mean expensive though. I am beginning to work on a master bedroom design for The Washington Post’s HouseCalls feature (my design will be published in Feb.) and it requires me to offer a “splurge” and “save” option for selections.
So I thought I’d offer you some “save” luxury items for use in your master bedroom, should you want to add some luxury to your retreat! Often it only takes a few updates to transform a room from blah to luxury!
Let’s start with your bedding. A soft palette that is soothing to your senses will add a bit of luxury to any room. Go for cotton and the highest thread count you can afford. I love the palette and pattern of this duvet bed set from Target.
Beautiful lighting is key to creating a luxurious feeling in your bedroom. I love the sparkle these lights add. Hang one over each nightstand and enjoy the sparkle!
Lounging with a great book is the height of luxury, especially after a busy day. I love a chaise in the bedroom and this one screams luxury with its tufting, curves and soft color. Add a textured pillow and soft throw and you may never get up!
Last, but not least, I’d add a pretty mirror over a dresser or on an entry wall. Using a mirror with sparkle and metals adds texture and luxury to a room. I love both of these luxurious round mirrors.
What will you add to your master bedroom to create a luxurious room? What says “luxury” to you?
